미노스 궁전은 기원전 1900년 무렵 이래 기원전 1350년 사이 크레타 섬을 기반으로 성립 번성한 미노스 문명 중심으로 생각된다.

이 거대한 크로소스 궁전 단지는 왕궁으로서의 역할뿐 아니라 종교적, 행정적 역할도 겸했다고 보지만 꼭 그렇게 볼 만한지 아닌지는 모르겠다.
