

These are two iron maces from the Joseon Dynasty era (1392-1910 AD) housed at the Seoul Baekje Museum in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
Length: 68.2 cm, width: 5.2 cm
These sticks have melon-shaped heads.
With a shorter handle, they could be used as hand-held weapons.
During the Joseon Dynasty period, these iron maces were more commonly used than the more common chain maces.
They were excavated from a Joseon Dynasty building site in Cheongjin-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

참외 모양의 머리가 달린 이 막대의 정체는 철퇴에요. 손잡이를 짧게 하면 휴대용으로도 쓸 수 있던 무기죠. 조선시대에는 흔히 아는 사슬 철퇴보다 이런 모양의 철퇴가 더 많이 쓰였답니다.
