Found in the polar Arctic regions of North America, Europe, and Asia, the Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is perfectly equipped for life below zero. This carnivore reduces its exposure to winter weather through a variety of adaptations, including compact body size, small ears, and short limbs.

But the Arctic fox is also a seasonal fashionista.

During winter, this species sports a dense coat of white fur that helps insulate it from the cold. Did you know?

It can withstand temperatures of up to −90°F (-67.8°C). By comparison, frostbite can affect humans at temperatures below 31°F (-0.6°C)!

북미, 유럽, 아시아 북극 지역에 서식하는 북극여우Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus)는 영하의 추위에 완벽하게 적응한 동물이다.

이 육식 동물은 작은 몸집, 작은 귀, 짧은 다리 등 다양한 적응을 통해 겨울 날씨에 노출되는 일을 최소화한다.

하지만 북극여우는 계절에 따라 털갈이도 한다.

겨울에는 촘촘한 흰 털로 덮여 추위로부터 몸을 보호한다.

북극여우는 영하 67.8°C(-90°F)까지 견딜 수 있다는 사실을 아시나?

참고로 사람은 영하 0.6°C(31°F) 이하에서도 동상에 걸릴 수 있다.
