십자가 펜던트 귀걸이Pendant Earrings with Crosses, 비잔틴 시대, 6세기 초~7세기 초

복잡한 디자인의 금 펜던트 귀걸이 한 쌍이다. 끝이 가늘어지는 오픈형 고리에는 구멍이 있는 비즈가 달려 있어, 비즈의 가는 끝부분을 끼워 넣을 수 있다.

각 고리 안쪽에는 작은 구슬이 달린 작은 고리 두 개가 납땜되어 펜던트 체인을 고정한다.

숫자 “8” 모양 고리가 겹겹이 연결된 체인은 앞쪽 펜던트가 짧고 뒤쪽 펜던트가 길어 길이가 다르다.

각 펜던트에는 십자가가 달려 있다.

십자가는 금박 조각을 5개 칸으로 배열하여 만들었는데, 4개는 십자가 팔 부분(아래쪽 막대는 약간 더 김)이고, 둥근 칸 하나는 가운데 부분(하나는 사각형에 가까움)이다.

각 칸은 녹색과 빨간색 유리 페이스트로 채웠다.

십자가는 진주로 더욱 장식했다.

십자가 위쪽에는 짧은 금선으로 고정된 진주 두 개가 있고, 금선 끝은 꼬여 있다.

십자가 아래쪽에는 작은 고리가 십자가 팔 안쪽과 가운데 부분에 각각 하나씩 납땜되어 있으며, 각 고리에는 금선으로 만든 고리 끝에 진주가 매달려 있고 끝은 꼬여 있다.

진주가 많이 빠져 있고 일부는 인공으로 만들어 넣었다.

Description
A pair of complex gold pendant earrings. Open tapered hoops have beads with holes to insert the thinner ends in. Two small rings, each with a globule, are soldered on the underside of each hoop to hold the chains of the pendants. Made of the figure “8” loop-in-loop chains differ in length, shorter on the front pendants and longer on the back ones. Each pendant holds a cross. Crosses are made of strips of gold sheet arranged into 5 cells, four for the cross arms (lower bars a little longer) and round ones for the center (one is more squarish). The cells are filled with green and red glass paste.
The crosses are further embellished with pearls. At the top of the crosses there were two pearls held by short gold wires with the end twists; the bottom of the crosses have small rings soldered one each to the underside the cross arms and one to the lower bar, each ring holds a pearl on a gold link-and-coil wire ending in a twist. Many pearls are missing and some are modern.
