최소 2200년 된 이 청동 거울은 전국시대 동주 왕조 시대 것으로 추정되며, 현재 중국 남부에 해당하는 초나라 지역에서 출토되었을 가능성이 있다.

거울에는 곱슬곱슬한 무늬와 과립 무늬가 반복되는 배경 위에 비스듬한 “T”자 모양이 겹쳐 있다.

소장처인 클리블랜드 미술관에 따르면, 이 모양은 한자로 “山”을 뜻하는 한자를 닮았다고 한다.

거울 지름은 18cm(7 1/16인치)다.

이 유물은 현재 미국 오하이오주 클리블랜드 미술관에 있으며, 1972년 윌리엄 H. 울프가 기증했다.

At least 2200 years old, this bronze mirror is attributed to the Warring States period of the Eastern Zhou dynasty, and is possibly from the State of Chu in what is now southern China.

The mirror features a repeating background pattern consisting of curls and granulation, overlaid with slanted “T”-like forms.

Accoring to the Cleveland Museum of Art, the shape resembles the Chinese character for “mountain” (shan, 山). The mirror measures 18 cm (7 1/16 in) in diameter.

This artifact is now housed by the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, United States. It was acquired in 1972 from William H. Wolff.
