이집트에서 2,000년 된 작업장과 로마 공동묘지 발굴

이집트 나일강 삼각주 서부 콤 알-아흐마르Kom Al-Ahmar와 콤 와싯Kom Wasit에서 고고학자들이 2,000년이 넘는 역사를 보여주는 유적을 발굴했다.

이집트-이탈리아 공동 연구팀은 산업 작업장과 함께 로마 시대 공동묘지를 발견하여 고대인들의 일상생활과 매장 풍습에 대한 새로운 통찰력을 제공했다.

산업 단지에는 생선 가공, 금속 및 석기 도구 제작, 도기 부적 제작에 사용된 6개 방이 포함된다.

약 9,700개 생선 뼈는 대규모 염장 생선 생산을 시사하며, 미완성 석회암 조각상과 수입된 그리스 도기는 이 작업장이 기원전 5세기부터 활발하게 운영되었음을 보여준다.

공동묘지에서는 남녀노소를 포함한 23구 유골이 간이 무덤, 도기 관 또는 대형 암포라에 묻힌 채 발견되었다.

완전한 형태 암포라와 어린 소녀 금 귀걸이와 같은 유물들도 발굴되었다.

현재 카이로 이집트 박물관에 소장되어 있는 이 유물들은 이 지역 경제, 산업, 사회 생활을 생생하게 보여주며, 서부 델타 지역이 생산과 문화 교류의 핵심 중심지였음을 강조한다.

2,000-YEAR-OLD WORKSHOPS AND ROMAN NECROPOLIS UNCOVERED IN EGYPT

Archaeologists in Egypt’s western Nile Delta have revealed more than 2,000 years of history at Kom Al-Ahmar and Kom Wasit. A joint Egyptian–Italian team discovered a Roman-era necropolis alongside industrial workshops, offering fresh insights into daily life and burial practices in antiquity.

The industrial complex included six rooms used for fish processing, metal and stone tool production, and crafting faience amulets. Around 9,700 fish bones indicate large-scale salted fish production, while unfinished limestone statues and imported Greek pottery show the workshops were active as early as the fifth century BCE.

The necropolis contained 23 individuals, including men, women, children and adolescents, buried in simple graves, pottery coffins or large amphorae. Artefacts such as complete amphorae and gold earrings of a young girl were also uncovered.

These finds, now housed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, provide a vivid snapshot of the region’s economic, industrial and social life, highlighting the western Delta as a key hub of production and cultural exchange.
