Archaeologists and undergraduate students from the University of Cambridge have uncovered human remains during a training excavation at Wandlebury Country Park. The burial is being studied to determine its date and cultural context, with preliminary assessments suggesting a possible Viking-era association.

One of the most notable aspects of the discovery is the stature of the individual, estimated to have stood over 6 feet 5 inches tall. Osteological analysis also identified evidence of trepanation, an ancient surgical procedure in which a small opening was created in the skull. Such procedures are documented in multiple ancient cultures and may have been performed for medical or ritual reasons.

Researchers are conducting further examination, including dating and contextual analysis, to better understand the individual’s background and the circumstances of the burial. Training excavations like this provide students with practical experience in archaeological methods while contributing to regional historical research.

연구진은 고인의 배경과 매장 당시 상황을 더 잘 이해하기 위해 연대 측정 및 맥락 분석을 포함한 추가 조사를 진행하고 있다.
