Fayum funerary portrait from Roman Egypt of a bearded young man dressed in a light tunic with dark straps. This portrait was placed over the face of the deceased mummy, preserving the individual’s identity for the afterlife. This man likely belonged to the wealthier class, as such portraits were expensive and rare.
